EGDF condemns recent online harassment of game developers

28th of March 2024

EGDF strongly condemns attacks on and harassment of any kind. In particular, EGDF condemns harassment based on gender, sexual orientation, ethnic or social origin, language, disability, or political or religious beliefs. We are appalled by the recent online assaults against and harassment of some game developers and players. Some of them are criminal acts, and their perpetrators should be brought to justice.

The lack of diversity is one of the key challenges faced by the European games industry. The European games industry has supported and continues to support a number of initiatives promoting diversity and targeted at making the industry itself and games more inclusive for women and other minorities.

Freedom of the arts is one of the fundamental human rights. EGDF  supports game developers’ right to artistic and creative freedom and defends their right to make independent choices about game design and content against censorship and any form of pressure or intimidation, including online harassment.
