London gets set to host the first-ever London Mobile Games Week in early 2015
A week-long series of industry events dedicated to the business of mobile games, London Mobile Games Week will create a platform for professionals in the tech, creative and entertainment sectors involved in all aspects of mobile gaming
4th November 2014
The team behind the hugely successful Mobile Games Forum (MGF) today announced it is to host the first-ever London Mobile Games Week in January 2015 in partnership with London & Partners, the Mayor’s promotional company for London, and sdtrade bodies UKIE and TIGA.
Taking place from 19-23rd January 2015, the event will bring together professionals in the tech, creative and entertainment sectors, with a core focus on mobile games, for a week-long series of events throughout London. Although mobile gaming is still in its infancy, it has quickly become a significant slice of the £540 million[1] that the UK games industry contributes to the British economy every year.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson welcomed the initiative and said:
“London’s tech sector is booming, going from strength to strength thanks to the capital’s fantastic blend of creative talent, entrepreneurial spirit and willing investors. One of the most dynamic and exciting parts of our tech boom is mobile gaming, with London-based studios and developers producing some of the best apps on the planet. It is why I am excited to see the inaugural Mobile Games Week coming to the capital – it is vital to support the bright sparks that are making this the world’s tech capital.”
Industry associations, mobile games studios and companies involved in any aspect of the creation of mobile games will be able to create and host their own independent events under the London Mobile Games Week banner, which will be free to attend and listed on www.mobilegamesweek.london
Events already scheduled to take place during London Mobile Games Week include:
- the 12th annual MGF London, discussing the business of mobile games
- PlayMob’s thoughtful and extremely popular Play Nice event, which helps developers and publishers gain a better understanding of using games for social change
- official events run by the UK’s leading games associations UKIE and TIGA
- an insight into creating games for learning by Kuato Studios
- an essential session for any developers using mobile advertising from Tune, the creators of the Mobile App Tracking platform
- key statistics and insights into the mobile app economy from analytics and advertising experts Flurry
- tips on how to create successful mobile advertising campaigns from leading mobile marketing agency M&C Saatchi Mobile
Commenting on the new event, Anisa Cousin of London Mobile Games Week organisers OsneyMedia, said: “The UK is rightly held up around the world as a hotbed of mobile gaming talent. We are proud to host the first week dedicated to celebrating this creative and exciting industry, and can’t wait for what is sure to be a fun and educational week packed full of insight and ideas.”
During the week events will take place in a diverse range of locations and settings across the UK capital, and range from everything from informal meet-ups and networking activities, to workshops and seminars, awards ceremonies and full scale conferences and exhibitions.
Zanine Adams, Head of Events & Business Development UK for London & Partners, the Mayor’s promotional company for London added:
“We are delighted to bring the inaugural Mobile Games Week to London, helping to underline the wealth of tech expertise and innovation in London right now. At London & Partners our focus is not only on attracting events to the capital, it’s about working with partners and stakeholders to cultivate new experiences and events. With London Technology Week we saw a unique opportunity to amplify the expertise and activities already happening in the city and build a bigger, more impactful event. Our aim is to do the same with this first-ever London Mobile Games Week.”
